 Thanks to the generosity of APS, Tonto Creek Camp is offer a unique training exclusively for teachers at no cost to you or your school!   The goal of Tonto Creek Camps’ Outdoor STEM Centered Education Workshops is to help school teachers implement Arizona’s Academic Standards.

Our approach focuses on allowing teachers to experience hands-on OSCE lessons just a student would outside or in the classroom.   Each workshop addresses various adult learning styles and builds on the TCC’s unique four-phase instructional design.  Our four phase learning cycle focuses on sparking students’ interest, engagement in student-centered, hands-on activities, making meaning and connecting concepts to the classroom and the real-world.

TEACHING TRAILBLAZERS: CAMP WORKSHOP (12 hours total)

Teaching Trailblazers gets teachers out of the classroom and into nature to participate in the same outdoor STEM centered education modules that students engage in!   Held at Tonto Creek Camp in Payson, AZ lays the foundation for integrating hands-on, outdoor informal lessons into your existing curriculum through one and half-days of modules that highlight OSCE tools and methods.  Throw in night-time astronomy and s’mores and well… Welcome to CAMP!

Day 1     The Power of Informal Education coming along-side Formal Education: OSCE Focus

Sets the foundation for creating environments and lessons designed to take you/your students

Through a range of experiences which builds knowledge progressively.

Experiential Field Lessons:  Techniques that spark interest, curates investigation & experience, makes meaning through processing & reflection and connects to the classroom and gives relevance to real-lives/real-world.

Day 2     Leadership Design

Attendees will learn invaluable information about leadership planning and design.

Low Ropes Challenge Course: In our final session, we ensure teachers are confident facilitating                 leadership activities that can be lead at school.

OSCE EXPLORERS: MOUNTAIN TO THE VALLEY WORKSHOP

OSCE Explorers introduces the importance of incorporating experiential learning and lays the foundation for creating user-friendly, hands-on STEM Centered activities for students.

OSCE Explorers workshop gives teachers the opportunity to enmesh informal outdoor education techniques into their classroom/school yard.

During this four-hour session they learn specific outdoor education skills essential to bringing experiential learning into the classroom, learn practical planning an logistic skills to prepare them to design, implement and prepare set-up stations for hands-on activities, they gain a structured approach to inquiry-based lesson planning as well as resource gathering information that will enable students to make personal connections to the activities.
